I trained myself to fly, I didn't know anyone who was into RC flying. I bought a flight simulator FS One and taught myself. I convinced myself I could learn for real on a 3D capable plane. I bought a Brio 10 and tried flying it. I scared myself pretty badly, unlike on my computer screen I did not feel like I was in control at all. I did make it around the field and actually landed fine. The stock landing gear is pretty weak so it flattened out and the fuselage needed repairs. Overall not bad but I decided to try something a little more tame.
I figured a proper trainer would be best, I bought a Nexstar EP. It is a much bigger plane and is still electric but with much more tame flight characteristics. Unfortunately, these planes have a high wing loading and need a lot of room to get off the ground. The school yard I was using seemed awfully small. It flew quite well and so far I have not harmed it. It has only flown a few times but below you can see how I have to land it in the school yard.

Finally, with practice I did my first true FPV flying. This first time
I tried this I crashed pretty badly. Now, with more pratice I flew
carefully around the school field and finally flew completely using the view
from the MK. There are a few things to work on. I need a much better light
seal around the goggles, they are swamped by external light. I don't seem
to have a great range, after about 500 feet I start getting glitches in the
video but that might be my low altitude.
The wind was 25 kmh and gusting which did not help the learning process.
The white bare near the top of the frame is to provide a reference to the
machines attitude. My first crash was caused in part by gyro drift that
caused a big tilt. Since the camera lens always produces a large bend in
the horizon I needed a way of knowing where I was pointing.
